In my organization, we already use Oracle Linux, as experiments, for projects with Zabbix, Grafana, Syslog server, IPAM, and Elastic Stack. The goal was a closer approach to Oracle Linux and to use it as an alternative to replacing CentOs. The documentation is very well prepared and we had no difficulties in making these POCs.
  • Zabbix
  • Grafana
  • Syslog
  • The limited knowledge base on the Oracle website sometimes could make it difficult for tshoot.
  • The user's interface could be improved to attract more user's engagement.
  • The Oracle Linux, needs to offer support to more packages.
As I mentioned in another question I believe the scenarios that Oracle Linux is well suited are using as a distribution to install apps such as Zabbix, Grafana, Syslog Servers, Elastic Stack, IPAM, and other's administrative tools for sysadmins. The scenarios where Oracle is less appropriate could be associated with user GUI, for example. I believe the user's GUI could be improved.

In my current organization, I am the lead consultant for a Healthcare Client in the UK. So, we had to design, create and implement a top-class robust solution for the Infrastructure implementation. We chose Oracle Linux as an operating system as it is the best out there. Most of our java based applications which are very critical in Hospital management like Prescription generation, audit, Salary management, Staff management, and a lot more are built on top of Oracle Linux as it provides capabilities of RHEL along with the usability of Oracle databases. The blazing fast speed of oracle Linux handles our server load fluently and helps us run a smooth operation -24*7.
  • Oracle Linux helps run native databases on the same operating systems that they were developed on.
  • Docker and Kubernetes support.
  • Oracle Linux is so powerful that you can patch the vulnerabilities faster than 74% of the organizations.
  • The support provided by oracle guys is one of the best.
  • All the traditional Linux commands are supported.
  • The limited knowledge base on the Oracle website sometimes makes it difficult for troubleshooting.
  • Some bugs are observed while working with the GUI . That needs to be fixed urgently.
  • There is a scope of improvement in kernel-level configuration.
  • The license cost is little on the higher side.
As the Healthcare domain is very customer-centric and demanding, the application should be always available with almost zero downtime to cater to the needs of our huge customer base. This was highly achieved when we brought Oracle Linux into our infrastructure base. The speed, agility, and support made our customers satisfied and we got a satisfaction index score (SIS) of 9/10 from the customer and peers.

As a budding startup in the 5g sector, we are looking to innovate, scale, and automate. The flexibility, agility, and robustness of Oracle Linux make it a brilliant fit for handling infrastructure loads during deployments in Dev/Test servers along with customer load in production servers as well. Definitely recommended.
  • Cloud applications/docker and Kubernetes support is one of the best.
  • Highly reliable and excellent performance.
  • The similarity with the linux commands and Hierarchy makes it fairly easy to use.
  • The user interface is good but needs to improve for user engagement.
  • Now need to develop as a cross-functional product with compatibility with other OS like Windows and Mac. This is currently missing from the product.
  • License cost is little on a higher side.
Oracle Linux is a very good and useful combination of the stability of Rhel and support for Oracle Databases. Our organisation uses an application and a database combo that we offer to the client but after the inclusion of Oracle Linux into our infrastructure, the provision and the operation cost are reduced significantly. So I would recommend using Oracle Linux when you are using multiple on-premises DB servers and want to move to a more secure, organised, and fast operating system.

Used to host our Applications and Webservers. The enterprise support is very good even during odd or out-of-office hours. We have hosted multiple applications on these servers including Database servers.
  • High Performance.
  • Good Support.
  • Multiple Budget Options.
  • Security.
  • Providing more robust solutions.
  • Clearing issues with the Disk Mounts.
Oracle Linux can be used if your application is huge and enterprise-level consisting of multiple user transactions daily. This is the go-to product if you are looking for a high-reliability server OS.

The main use case for using Oracle Linux was to save millions of dollars migrating from Solaris UNIX. The use of Oracle Linux Cloud provides scalability and a more accurate allocation of resources. Oracle Linux also provides high performance and secure operating environment. Most importantly, Oracle Linux is supported across both hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Oracle Linux installation and setup is quick and easy with minimal downtime.
  • Oracle Linux provides integrated suite of Linux optimized tools.
  • Oracle Linux patching is automated and does not require rebooting.
  • The learning curve for using Oracle Linux is much less than expected and zero time if you already know UNIX.
  • Oracle Linux does not fully support the open source community.
  • The Oracle Linux documentation for support is lacking and often non-existent.
  • Oracle Linux needs to support more packages.
  • Oracle Linux GUI compatibility needs improvement and expanding.
Oracle Linux is recommended for low-cost applications that do not require much technical support. Oracle Linux is ideal for standalone servers in a highly distributed environment with scalability, high performance, and secure needs. Oracle Linux should be used if you wish for easy setup and solid core software requirements. Oracle Linux is definitely recommended if Oracle Database is already used and other Oracle products allow further optimization features.

I first came across the Oracle Linux product when I was working for an Oracle partner Technology company. It was mainly used for training professionals in data administration such as Oracle database Administration Workshop I, Workshop II, Oracle Database 11g - Data Guard Administration, Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), and security courses. Every command was run on top of this Linux distribution.
  • Shell Scripting
  • System Administration
  • Database Administration
  • User management
  • Slower than other Linux ( Say Linux mint, Ubuntu).
  • Lack of technical support.
  • Difficult to troubleshoot.
As a result of the migration from Red Hat Enterprise Linux to Oracle Linux, overall application performance was improved significantly. Oracle Enterprise Linux is pretty much based on the Red Hat Linux code, although it receives faster and more regular updates from Oracle. They have better security configurations. However, it is also missing a lot of packages that are usually available in other distributions.

I’ve used oracle to perform daily ongoing business operations. It was good for [the] deployment of a new project and also awesome at registering client [systems] whether being a physical server or virtual machine guests. the only problem [that came from] a business point of view is the knowledge that people had about Oracle products, however, we tried our best to train our employees to overcome it.
  • Client Registering
  • Administration
  • Patching
  • Security auditing
  • Configuration management
  • Information sharing
  • Knowledge base
  • Custom support based on different domains.
  • Scheduled deployment.
It’s best suited for humongous business applications such as in the banking sector where we have data flow from all directions and thorough [management] is necessary to ensure [the] business is up and running. Although multiple container technologies are now working hard to acquire leadership in software, oracle is constantly upgrading and customizing itself to give the end-users the right luxury of working in [a] fast-paced environment.

Oracle Linux is best suited in our organization for service delivery and marketing of our products as it is an operating system so widely used in our country in so many different organizations especially in Colleges and universities. It provides great customer service and professional staff service delivery in different professions.
  • Installing different softwares
  • Service delivery
  • Professional outlook
  • Driver update must improve
It's good in programming meaning coding. Free virus intrusion penetration the case being it's a rare operating system. Not so widely used to none educate individuals, in this case, like in my country. The most common software in use is Windows 7,8 and 10. Oracle is widely used in the educational setup.

We used Oracle Linux to host several services which were used to develop a maintaining system. The system ran multiple services pretty well and was exactly what we expected it to do and perform the way we needed it to. But due to an NDA, I can't elaborate further.
  • Performance
  • Latency
  • Configuration
  • User friendliness
  • Documentation
  • API
Hosting services for our development cycle went pretty [well] using Oracle Linux. I actually don't have any complaints about it. I just don't have a lot of discussions with colleagues about different distributions. Some distros are better suitable depending on the needs of the developer/system admin. But I would recommend it of someone decided to ask.

We are currently using Oracle Linux 7 to host our Oracle Databases, Apache HTTP server, PHP, Tomcat, Oracle & Reports for various Business Applications and Processes used by Western Cape Government.
  • Host a variety of Databases like Oracle, MySQL, Postgres, etc.
  • Host various Applications like PHP, Tomcat, Appache HTTP Server, Weblogic, etc.
  • Operation System.
  • I would like an easy way of installing packages through yum or rpm without stressing about which repository to find the package.

I use to for some customer place, those wants to avoid CentOS. Oracle Linux widely supports all rpm and is similar to other Unix OS, it's good to use for SIEM implementation. Typically for Splunk Enterprise, the base OS I use sometimes when it needs to be different.
  • Support all features required for Splunk Implementation.
  • Syslog-NG also supported.
  • Crontab also working as per expectation.
  • As such improvement has not been seen. But in GNOME, yes more graphical look and feels will be good to have.
It's stable and reliable like RHEL.

The product is actually good as a whole but needs a bit of more community support also propagation within advanced Unix-based system users. Liked that is based on the red hat as it’s mainly targeted by large enterprises and with some extra effort it will achieve a good reputation within the Linux users community.
  • Scalable
  • Robust
  • Efficient
  • More updates.
  • Support for different integrations.
  • Focusing security holes.
Was really great for my database integration but it lacked scalability mainly due to 24/7 run time and because it needs more community support overall as well but I think through coming years it will be a great solution for any oracle deployment project and with some updates, it’s on the right road.

Oracle Databases and Oracle EBS applications in our environment run on the Oracle Linux Platform. We get support for our database, application, and operating system from a single vendor. Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is fine-tuned to ensure optimal performance for Oracle Databases. Oracle certifies product compatibility for various releases of Oracle databases, applications, and Oracle Linux after thorough testing and this gives us the confidence to run the business-critical applications on Oracle Linux. Oracle Linux is a flexible tool that is being used in various departments of our organization. This is used to handle the data that is present on our servers. This is very safe and secure, and very easy to manage which helps us in solving a lot of business problems that we faced earlier.

  • Performance is optimized.
  • Administration and Installation is easy.
  • User Interface requires some improvement.
  • Feature upgrade requires time.
  • Customer Service could be improved.
This is a very powerful operating system that is very well suited for the Oracle ecosystem where you have multiple applications of Oracle as it becomes very easy to integrate with that. This is free to use so it can be implemented in small companies as well. It provides high security as well.

When you use it for Oracle Database or MySQL or for reporting it’s the best. Also for data warehousing applications.

We have implemented our databases on Oracle Linux for our customers and that is being used by a few departments of our organization, not by the full organization. Even when I need to perform some R&D work I perform the same on Oracle Linux on my personal laptop.
  • I don't need to create Oracle user when using Oracle Linux.
  • I don't need to create groups as well for installation of Oracle Database.

We use Oracle Linux as an operating system for our Oracle e-business suite applications, it pretty much delivers the robustness, security, and scalability to our organizational needs. Till now we have not found any serious issues with it, we regularly apply the bug fixes on the operating system, databases, and applications.
  • Security
  • Scalable
  • Robustness
  • I guess GUI needs little more improvement.
  • Plug and play options should be more user friendly.
  • System monitoring should be also clubbed with GUI.
The Oracle Linux is more suitable to the environments where there is online data transaction hit more and it pretty much suits there as there are good security gateways in Oracle Linux than many around operating systems in the market. The companies with high data load like data warehousing are well managed. It also depends on the company with what they put focus on.

Oracle Linux is used by one of the customers we support, they had a premium license and we used multiple features from Oracle Linux. The main feature that we used is online patching for Linux servers using Ksplice. It is a very useful tool to apply patches on servers online including kernel and we were able to resolve so many issues related to downtime and long hours of a production outage. I am glad to work on this product and continue to work and be able to use most of the features.

It is being used within the organization by different user groups and students. I am also one of the active users using it. It is one of the secure OS and new technology that has been introduced to the new students which address the current security issues. Earlier on open source, OS was used but due to the security issues, we had to switch to Oracle Linux.
  • Support cost.
  • Runs well on Oracle Database.
  • Kernel Security.
  • It only works with Oracle Products.
  • Documentation
  • Less community
Works well with oracle product and have minimum user documentation. Feels like just the copy of RHEl. But it works perfectly with the Oracle database and KSplice feature. It also offers a better price as compared to other Linux platforms having a great support offer of 24/7. Only thing is that it runs perfectly on Oracle hardware.

We have decided to replace old windows machines with Oracle Linux machines. This initially we thought would create some unknown issues, but after using Oracle Linux for months, we felt that this was a good decision which was made then. I can say Oracle Linux has all the features that Windows has and in some in exceeds the expectations.
  • Since it's a free and open source software, it suits great even for small startups.
  • Lots of stable features.
  • Backed by prestigious corporation.
  • Good support team.
  • GUI could be enhanced to match the ease of Windows/Ubuntu.
  • Technical learning curve for new users could be reduced with best tutorials.
  • Since this has less users, support community pages from users are very less.
Very much suitable for performance-related applications or projects as Oracle Linux is very much optimized. Oracle Linux internals like kernel management and memory management is very well tuned to suit high-performance demands. Easily installable and backs all the features which are within RedHat Linux as the main source code was from RedHat. RedHat lovers will really like Oracle Linux.
